About Brockway Elementary School

"Brockway Elementary provides PE to every PreK to 2nd grade student daily. We design lessons that allow students to implement the activities and skills, learned in school, at home in an effort to improve their health and wellness in a positive way. I had the opportunity to help teach a “bike school” at our upper elementary school and saw the importance of teaching kids how to ride a bike safely and follow the rules of the road. Recently, our school district suffered an unfortunate bike accident, leaving a student seriously injured and shaking our local community. Our PE department has toyed with the idea of bike school, however this recent accident inspired us teach an abbreviate bike school during PE recently using trikes fitted for pre-school aged children. Although all the students had a blast, our goal is to help students learn on a properly fitted bike. We would love to bring this program to Brockway and teach our students the benefits of riding bikes, and show them the joy they can have with their classmates and especially their families outside of school. Receiving this grant would open many doors for involvement with staff, students, families, and our entire community, here in Douglas County."- PE Teacher, Justin B.

Brockway Elementary School is seeking support for a complete Kindergarten PE Program, including a fleet of 40 Strider AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, one Strider 20-inch Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.
