About Bates Elementary
"The Bates Elementary School is a Title I, full inclusion K0 to 6 Boston Public
School serving 300 students in the heart of Roslindale. Proudly recognized as
one of the most diverse school communities in Boston, the Bates celebrates the
richness of its students’ identities, cultures, and experiences, including seven
racial demographics, 15 home languages, and 31 national origins. We welcome
students across a wide range of faiths, cultural traditions, and gender identities,
including gender non-conforming students, students who celebrate Christmas,
read from the Torah, practice Islam, observe other religions, or practice none at
all. One quarter of our students have disabilities and learn in the same
classrooms as their peers, reflecting our commitment to true, meaningful
inclusion. Some of our scholars trace their roots to the Pilgrims, while others
arrived in the United States within the past year. Our diversity is our strength,
and inclusion means everyone.
The Bates mission centers on providing quality, inclusive education that affirms
the identities of all individuals, develops responsible citizens and leaders, and
instills a lifelong love of learning in a nurturing atmosphere that prioritizes
social-emotional wellness. We hold high expectations, strive for academic
excellence, and celebrate achievement in many forms. At the Bates, we
highlight and celebrate the core BATES Habits: Be Safe, Accept Others, Try Our
Best, Excellent Work, and Show Respect and Kindness, guiding all members of
our community toward growth, belonging, and success." Superintendent, Dr. Weeks
