About Cayuga Elementary

"This program would benefit our school community and impact our kindergarten students greatly because 3 out of the 6 kindergarten classes we have this year are all special needs. They don’t have the means to learn how to ride a bike at home and due to a high number of low income families, they don’t have the equipment, time, or the space available to teach their children how to ride. This program would give students the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike so we can kick start them into a healthier lifestyle in the future.

The population of our special needs students are also students who need assistance with life skills. I believe riding a bike is a huge life skill and it gives them a goal to work towards. Our general education kindergarten classes will benefit from this program as well by teaching them to be more independent, use problem solving skills, and show the importance of how bike riding is a means to a healthy lifestyle. I want to bring as much opportunity as possible to my students and teach them skills they can bring throughout life outside my classroom." PE Teacher, Amanda S.

Cayuga Elementary School is seeking support for a complete Kindergarten PE Program, including a fleet of 35 Strider AKB-Specific bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, 1 Strider 20-inch bike for teacher instruction, 2 steel rolling storage racks, and curriculum.
