About Lewis Elementary School

"My name is Scott DeMonte and I am the PE teacher at Lewis Elementary in Portland, OR. Our city is an amazing bike city, but our young students are not riding as much as you would think! I taught a bike program this year with borrowed bikes from the city of Portland. 20% of the students did not know how to ride bikes in the 4th and 5th grade. This is what I want to prevent in the future. The older students get, the less they will want to learn due to fear and embarrassment.  Luckily, we were able to teach all of them to learn in the 3-weekeek program! I want to help this problem and make sure we are giving these kids the gift and joy of bike riding. I would love to get a balance bike program going for my Kinders and 1st graders. This would solve the problem! Both of my teen age sons learned on striders, and they were riding at 2.5 and 3 years! Striders were key! Thank you for considering to donate."
