Michael loved two wheels and the experiences it brought to his life. The people, the relationships were his favorite part. I was honored to help as an All Kids Bike connection when his son Brandon reached out. May his legacy and love for kids and experiences live on. God Speed Michael

I remember my first bike ride without training wheels back in the 70s, and the first time I rode my own motorscooter in Thailand forty years later. It's a joy to enable that sense of freedom in kids learning to ride, thanks to Mike's generous spirit. Thank you, Hazard family for this fund!

About Michael Hazard Memorial Fund

Michael Hazard Kalamazoo, MI

Michael Thomas Hazard, a talented tool & die maker and designer, bid farewell to this world on March 23, 2024, at his home with his family by his side in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born in Kalamazoo on December 21, 1961, son to the late Joseph and Norma (Holbrook) Hazard. Michael's life was a tapestry woven with threads of creativity, generosity, and warmth.

Not only did Michael excel in his career, but he also selflessly served his country in the Navy, stationed in Japan. His dedication to perfection was evident in every aspect of his life, from his military service to his woodworking projects.

Described as someone who never met a stranger, Michael had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like family. He opened his heart and home to countless individuals and approached each interaction with kindness and patience. His brilliance shone through not only in his work but also in his willingness to teach and guide others. Mike frequented the Water Street Coffee Joint in Kalamazoo. He would often buy strangers a cup of coffee to brighten their day. Mike made strong connections and touched the lives of everyone he met.

Amongst his hobbies and interests were supporting his children in all their school activities and accomplishments. He could be described as having the loudest voice in the crowd, famously yelling "LET'S GO MATTAWAN" during every band concert. He loved machines and anything fast! This included the thrill of jet skis, motorcycles, pickup trucks and indulging his passion for radio control cars, which he meticulously built himself. Mike found great joy taking his hand-crafted radio control cars to races in Portage and Indianapolis. His woodworking projects were detailed and made to perfection. His children enjoyed working at his side on many projects. His passion for motorcycles began many years ago in Japan, while he was serving in the Navy. Mike was out on shore duty with a broken leg when he bought his first motorcycle. He taught himself to ride with a broken leg! Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 2018, Michael embarked on an unforgettable coast-to-coast motorcycle trip spanning 22 states-a true testament to his adventurous spirit.

In addition to leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and love, Michael is survived by a loving family who will carry forward his memory with fondness. He was united in marriage to Lisa Lovett in Clarkston, Michigan, on May 30, 1987. Michael is also survived by his daughter Marissa (Spencer) Jardine; son, Brandon (Courtney) Hazard, grandchildren, Piper Jardine and Elliott & Vivian Hazard; stepmother Loraine Hazard, his siblings Theresa Hazard, Michelle Hazard, Virginia (Steve) Kuehl, Joe (Julia) Hazard, Mark Hazard, Tim (Carla) Hazard and Randy (Theresa) Hazard, along with countless friends.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw. Funeral Services will follow on Thursday, March 28, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Msgr. Michael Hazard officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Those attending the visitation and service are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts and jeans.
